PROJECT PULSE - FEEL IT !

Project Pulse is a venture to create an increased awareness on the life saving measures such as Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation –The project undertaken by a core group of eight youngsters aims at reaching the public on the importance of CPR being known as an essential skill by all.

Project PULSE is funded and supported by the Indian Red Cross Society and M.S.Ramaiah Medical College.

A lot of people are unaware of the underlying fact that most of the medical students themselves are not equipped with this skill which could in many circumstances be a crucial variable in saving some one’s life. Thus is becomes absolutely necessary to create awareness among the medical students and others about the importance of knowing this skill through effective training right at the beginning of their journey in the medical field.. Hence Project Pulse aims at motivating the medicos to take a pledge of community concern and learn the skill to tackle this public health problem with joint hands.

In the context of the rise in the number of sudden cardiac arrests, and the lack of formal training, eight students have formed a group that aims at training 600 medical students in the basics of CPR and increase awareness amidst the masses. The main objective of this project was to demonstrate and create awareness about the necessity for increased educational intervention regarding CPR and other life saving skills, which can be imparted, to the public. The younger generation is equally receptive and enthusiastic. It is this energy that needs to be tapped by public health officials to generate a strong chain of survival in our community.  Efforts to make Bangalore the CPR capital of India are on the way by many NGOs but very few go forward to teach the students in class rooms during college hours as a part of their routine learning.

Many students who would not even know the meaning of CPR are highly inspired on getting to learn the skill … hence to make this weak link strong … the participation of the community young and the public health workers is needed.

Apart from the actual training of the students by professional trainers, we also aim to create awareness about CPR by forming a human chain, at the end of the workshop series, consisting of participants of the workshops who have learnt CPR.

OUR OBJECTIVE:

  1. To create increased awareness about the necessity of knowing the skill of CPR among public.
  2. To train medical students in CPR.
  3. To create a permanent database of students who have learnt the skill and interested in imparting it to others as trainers.

OUR BASE - THE MEDICOS:

We intend to start our project with our target audience being the medical students. This is only the initial stages of the project because as students in this field we are aware of the fact that many of the upcoming doctors who are here to serve the community are not familiar with his technique. We need to tackle the problem at the grass root level and thus the need to start with the medical students who will then go on to carve the future for us, hence it becomes imperative that they as doctors by profession are fully equipped to handle any emergency. Only then can we penetrate in to the masses.

ORGANIZATIONAL PLAN:

PROJECT PULSE will begin its operation in the city of Bangalore. The execution will take place in four phases:

bullet Phase one: A website regarding the group and the objectives will be out up including the names of the sponsors and affiliations.  Adequate information regarding CPR and project pulse will be available here for further reference.
bullet Phase two: A presentation encompassing various aspects of CPR like a brief introduction to the subject and its importance, the upcoming need for all students in this field to be well versed with this technique will be furnished. The PSM (Preventive & Social medicine) Departments of these medical colleges will be contacted to help in   mobilizing volunteers.

This will create awareness amidst the students. Also the list of volunteers who have registered for training from all the medical colleges will be obtained.

bullet Phase three: A database of trainers is made who are contacted and dates allotted for the workshop. A weeklong workshop conducted for volunteers from all colleges by a group of skilled trainers. A permanent database of trained students and trainers is made for further reference.
bullet Phase four: The participants of the workshop will form a HUMAN CHAIN in the city to create public awareness on CPR and public concern.

Thus project Pulse will aim at increasing the awareness and making people realize the importance of CPR in today’s world not only to someone in this profession but to every person in the community. Project pulse will reinforce CPR as a public variable, which affects any community, and henceforth, adequate attention is to be given .
