The first step is always to recognize the Cardiac Arrest.

Look for Hazards
Look around; make sure there are no hazards such as faulty electric cables that may give you an electric shock, or other dangers

Establish Unresponsiveness

SHAKE AND SHOUT
Call the persons name loudly and gently shake the person from side to side, not up and down to avoid any injury the spine and head. Some advice banging the table or round next to the person to awaken him/her

Always shout loudly for help when there is no response.

If they are conscious what do I do?
If someone responds to Shake and Shout they are conscious. Seek medical advice if required.

The question of ‘PHONE FIRST  arises  in  case of an adult victim and ‘PHONE FAST’ in case of a child in an attempt to alert the EMS (Emergency  Medical  Services). This  is because  Cardiac causes  of the  arrest  are more common among adults and the important determinant  of  survival is early defibrillation. Therefore arrival of medical personnel with a defibrillator is essential. In case of a child a few minutes of BLS successfully resuscitates a victim and it is worth trying so for a minute or two

Roll them onto their side:
Kneel beside the person and turn them onto their side. Do this by placing the arm furthest away from you at right angles to their body. Bend the knee closest to you. Place the arm closest to you across their chest
